Kevin Kelly
Kevin KellyManaging Partner and Chief Investment Officer
Mr. Kelly focuses primarily on the equities and options securities market. As Chief Investment Officer, he oversees all research and investment strategies. Prior to joining Recon Capital, Mr. Kelly served as a Portfolio Manager for Tontine Capital, a hedge fund, from 2008 – 2011 where he focused on equities and equity derivatives. Mr. Kelly also previously worked for Goldman, Sachs & Co. in San Francisco, for a wealth management team with $6 billion assets under management. He performed due diligence on companies, assets, and investment managers while at Goldman. Mr. Kelly has also worked at Deutsche Bank on its US Private Placement’s Debt Team in London assisting in originating, syndicating, and executing private bond issues of offshore companies sold to qualified institutional buyers. His duties included performing analysis of client credit spreads, monitoring treasury rates, swaps curves, LIBOR, credit ratings and all non-USD denominated transactions. Mr. Kelly has his series 7, 63, and 65 securities licenses. Mr. Kelly received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance, Summa Cum Laude, from the W.P. Carey School of Business and the Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University. Mr. Kelly is a frequent options and market contributor to several media outlets.
Garrett Paolella
Garrett PaolellaManaging Partner and Chief Executive Officer
In dual roles as Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Paolella dedicates his time to effectively running firm operations and developing new business lines and strategies. Prior to co-founding Recon Capital Partners, Mr. Paolella served as an Executive Director at MKM Partners, a Research, Sales and Trading Firm based in Stamford, CT. Mr. Paolella was an institutional sales and execution trader from 2008–2012, where his primary focus was on US and International trading of equities and options. Additionally, Mr. Paolella was responsible for managing the firm’s real estate and new office expansion across the country. Prior to working on the sales and trading desk, Mr. Paolella worked with the macro team at MKM Partners. This role encompassed analyzing and identifying support and resistance levels, trends, and inflection points through technical analysis for clients. Preceding his work at MKM Partners, Mr. Paolella co-founded MMP Consulting, a firm dedicated to helping US and International start-ups with capital raising and initial business implementation. Mr. Paolella has his series 7, 55, 63, and 65 security licenses. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance, Magna Cum Laude, from the Gabelli School of Business at Roger Williams University. Mr. Paolella serves as Chairman of the Center for Advanced Financial Education (CAFÉ) Advisory Board at the Mario J. Gabelli School of Business. The Board’s primary purpose is overseeing a nationally recognized portfolio management program.

Troy Cates
Troy CatesPartner and Head of Trading
Troy Cates joined Recon Capital in September of 2014 as a Partner and Head of Trading. Previously, Mr. Cates was an Executive Director at MKM Partners, a Research, Sales and Trading firm based in Stamford, CT where he was an institutional execution trader focusing on US and International equities and the syndicate calendar from 2006 – 2014. Prior to MKM, he was a trader at Knight Capital Group. Mr. Cates started his career working as a market maker for Spencer Trask, a New York based venture capital firm, from 1998 – 2004. He has his series 4, 7, 55, and 63 security licenses. Mr. Cates graduated from University at Albany with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration focusing on Finance and Marketing.
Gery Sadzewicz
Gery Sadzewicz Chief Compliance Officer
Mr. Sadzewicz is a skilled securities compliance and business professional with thirty years’ experience in identifying compliance, financial, and regulatory risks at such firms as Oppenheimer & Co., Ernst & Young Investment Advisers, Giuliani Capital Advisors, Koch Industries, and the Walt Disney Company. During these 30 years Mr. Sadzawicz has served over 12 years as a CCO, CFO, and FINOP. He managed several FINRA and SEC audits for diverse financial service organizations, created three broker-dealers and thirty investment advisory firms, including supervisory systems for each, and built three asset management platforms. Mr. Sadzewicz has also served as a NASD Arbitrator. He is a Registered Options and Security Futures Principal (ROSFP) and holds NASD Securities and Principal Licenses, including Series 4, 7, 24, 27, 53, 63, and 65. Mr. Sadzewicz received his Bachelor of Science Degree from DePaul University.
Jonathan Molchan
Jonathan MolchanSenior Analyst
Prior to joining Recon Capital, Mr. Molchan was a Trader and Risk Manager for a $1 billion long/short equity fund, which included a global macro portfolio, at Catapult Capital LLC, a Millennium Partners LP company, based in Old Greenwich, CT. Mr. Molchan traded equities, futures and options and was responsible for monitoring desk exposures and analyzing market conditions to identify material impacts to portfolios due to market correlations, global economic releases and monetary policy commentary.Prior to Catapult, Mr. Molchan worked at JP Morgan in New York, NY in the Commodities Division. Mr. Molchan started in the hedge fund industry at SAC Capital Advisors LP in Stamford, CT. As an analyst, he supported portfolio managers globally who managed long/short equity and various exotic trading strategies. Mr. Molchan received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from the John F. Welch College of Business at Sacred Heart University.
Steven Malafronte
Steven Malafronte Executive Director
Mr. Malafronte serves as Executive Director focusing on the implementation and development of relationships with investment advisors and their firms. He is in charge of assessing Recon Capital’s short and long term strategies and ensure they achieve its mission in a consistent and timely manner. Prior to joining Recon Capital Partners, Mr. Malafronte served as a financial advisor for an independent wealth management firm based in Stamford CT. There he concentrated on tax efficient, wealth accumulation and preservation strategies for his clients using a variation of investment strategies. Mr. Malafronte also worked for Morgan Stanley on a team of private wealth managers focusing on equity, bond, and mutual fund portfolios. Additionally, Mr. Malafronte is knowledgeable within commercial real estate markets where he has been involved in the development & restructuring of multiple commercial real estate properties. He holds his Series 7, 63 and 65 licenses as well as his life, health and accident licenses, and his Real Estate license. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from the Gabelli School of Business at Roger Williams University. Mr. Malafronte is a board member for the Center for Advanced Financial Education (CAFÉ) Advisory Board at the Mario J. Gabelli School of Business.
Jake Donnelly
Jake DonnellyExecutive Director
As Executive Director, Mr. Donnelly dedicates his time to managing strategic accounts, developing new business, and overseeing marketing efforts. Prior to joining Recon Capital, Mr. Donnelly was a Wholesaler at OppenheimerFunds, where he focused on maintaining and growing assets under management by promoting mutual funds, separate account managers, and hedge funds to financial advisors and registered investment advisors. Prior to being a wholesaler, Mr. Donnelly helped successfully launch a new sales team called the Business Development Group. The group prospected for new business from existing top producing financial advisors that currently had no prior business with OppenheimerFunds. Prior to working in the sales department Mr. Donnelly also worked in the marketing department and high net worth division of OppenheimerFunds. He has his series 7 and 63 securities licenses. Mr. Donnelly received a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Sciences in Business and Communications with honors at Arizona State University.
Ray Bartoszek
Ray BartoszekAdvisory Board
Mr. Bartoszek, and his wife Lydia, founded RLB Holdings at the start of 2011 after +20 years in the energy business. Mr. Bartoszek wanted an avenue through which he and Lydia could invest and grow their money whilst affecting positive change in the community around them. Mr. Bartoszek oversees all operations and investments at RLB Holdings. He currently is a member of the Board of Directors at Solution Point International, Hadron Global Partners and Defense Mobile Corporation.
Before establishing RLB, Mr. Bartoszek lead the US oil trading department at Glencore, Ltd in Stamford, CT for close to 10 years. Prior to that he worked at Texaco and General Dynamics. Ray holds a pair of Bachelor of Sciences, in Marine Engineering and Marine Transportation, from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. Ray also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Rensallear Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.
